Petrobras and Vale signed a contract to supply S10 diesel and other renewable fuels for the mining company’s operations in Minas Gerais. This fuel includes 15% biodiesel, in accordance with current regulations. The agreement also provides for the development of sustainable energy solutions through the use of Diesel R and the possible supply of HVO(hydrotreated vegetable oil).
Supply and production of renewable fuels
Since 2023, both companies have been working on tests with low-carbon fuels. In 2024, progress was made toward a cooperation agreement that includes the Diesel R5with 5% additional renewable content, and tests with bunker fuel incorporating up to 24% renewable component. These initiatives are part of the transition to more efficient and cleaner industrial operations.
With this contract, Petrobras strengthens its strategy of directly reaching large industrial consumers. The company’s president, Magda Chambriard, mentioned that this type of partnership allows Petrobras to better understand the customers’ needs and generate high-performance energy solutions aligned with decarbonization goals.
For Vale, the partnership is part of its long-term plan to decarbonize its operations. The mining company’s CEO, Gustavo Pimenta, highlighted Brazil’s potential as a benchmark in renewable fuels and the value generated by this direct relationship with Petrobras. Both companies are thus consolidating a partnership that combines scale, innovation and sustainability.
