DEME has been awarded three contracts for the BC-Wind offshore wind farm, located in the Baltic Sea off the northern coast of Poland. This development strengthens its role as a major player in the European energy transition.

Offshore wind energy strategy and planning

The development of BC-Wind is in charge of Ocean Windsa joint venture created by EDP Renewables and ENGIE. The park is located some 23 kilometers off the Polish coast, and will have an installed capacity of up to 390 megawatts, enough to supply clean energy to approximately half a million homes per year.

DEME will install 27 monopile foundations: 26 for wind turbines and one for the marine substation. It will also install the inter-platform cables and the export cablethat will connect the wind farm to the mainland power grid.

For these tasks, it will deploy its vessel Oriona vessel designed for highly complex offshore operations. Also equipped with a 5,000-ton crane, advanced ballasting systems and a motion-compensated grapple, Orion is ready to handle large-scale foundations, even in adverse conditions.

The execution of these contracts is part of Poland’s plan to diversify its energy matrix and reduce dependence on coal. With projects such as BC-Wind, the country seeks to position itself as a leader in offshore wind energy in Central and Eastern Europe.

With this award, DEME expands its portfolio of wind projects in the Baltic Sea and strengthens its relationship with global developers. The combination of advanced technology and technical expertise makes the company a strategic partner for sustainable energy infrastructure in Europe.
