The city of Zaragoza has been the scene of a major step forward in advanced air mobility (AAM), with the completion of the first multi-point urban flights by an unmanned eVTOL aircraft in Europe.
EHang, a world leader in intelligent air transport technologies, deployed its EH216-S model as part of the European Union’s U-SAVE program, designed to validate emergency response solutions using unmanned aircraft.
Demonstration of eVTOL flights in Zaragoza
During the day, the EH216-S operated point-to-point flights integrated with ANRA’ s U-Space platform, enabling emergency response in urban environments with digitally managed air traffic. The demonstration was the closing of the U-SAVE project, funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, and consolidated Zaragoza as a test center for AAM solutions in Europe.
The operation was supported by local institutions such as the Zaragoza City Council, the Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences and the Aragonese Aerospace Cluster. Also participating were entities from the logistics and health sector such as Novaltia, Prolog and ALIA, showing a strong public-private collaboration aimed at integrating the emergency drones in the smart city of the future.
Technology applied to critical situations
With an autonomous flight capability, the EH216-S is an effective solution for rapid response in congested urban areas or areas with limited access. These demonstration flights validate its operability for transporting medical resources, facilitating evacuations or providing assistance in health emergencies.
The success of this urban mission positions EHang as a key player in the transformation of European airspace. The U-SAVE project is aligned with European Union guidelines to integrate unmanned aircraft in cities, providing a replicable model of automated, safe and sustainable mobility.
Backed by EIT Urban Mobility, the Estonian Aviation Academy, and other European entities, this initiative demonstrates the potential of intelligent aerial systems in civil applications. The Zaragoza case sets a precedent for future implementations of eVTOL in urban emergency services and advanced logistics.
