Corrosion protection is now a strategic priority in sectors such as oil and gas, where metal assets are exposed to extreme conditions. In this context, we interviewed Rick Lujano, Territory Manager - Tank Linings at Denso, Inc, during his participation in the NISTM 2025 event, the conversation revolved around the main corrosion challenges in industrial tanks and how the company offers proven solutions that extend the useful life of these essential structures.
Corrosion is one of the main enemies of assets in the oil and gas industry, affecting the useful life of tanks, pipelines and structures, generating operational risks and high maintenance costs. For Rick Lujano, the objective is clear: "Corrosion has always existed, our focus is prevention, not correction".
One of the pillars of Denso's strategy is its line of liquid epoxy coatings. These materials are designed to protect the interior of tanks that are exposed to high temperatures and aggressive chemical agents.
"Each epoxy has specific characteristics depending on the type of tank and its application."
Lujano explains.
This type of coating creates a resistant and durable barrier that prevents metal deterioration. They are applicator-friendly products and have formulations adapted to different requirements, which is especially valued in the operation of critical assets.
In addition to the internal coatings, Denso also offers solutions for external protection by means of viscoelastic tapes. These tapes, combined with mastics, are applied at the base of the tanks to prevent water ingress, one of the most common factors of corrosion underneath.
"It's like a roll that completely encapsulates the critical area of the tank."
Lujano points out.
By creating an airtight seal, the presence of air and moisture is eliminated, which completely stops the formation of corrosion cells. This technology is not new: Denso has been manufacturing and perfecting these products for more than ninety years.

The highlight of Denso's approach is its ability to offer comprehensive corrosion protection. By combining epoxy coatings on the inside with viscoelastic sealing on the outside, 100% coverage of the tanks is achieved.
This dual protection model extends the useful life of assets and significantly reduces the costs associated with repairs or replacements. In industries where downtime translates into millions of dollars in losses, this type of solution represents a competitive advantage.
Denso, a subsidiary of Winn & Coales International, has developed a solid reputation as a manufacturer of solutions for corrosion protection of structures in extreme environments. Founded in the 19th century, the company combines its century-old heritage with a constant commitment to innovation.
"We are a family company that remains committed to the industry, with proven products such as our petrolatum tapes, which have more than 90 years of effectiveness in the field."
Lujano affirms.
With a global presence and a wide range of products adapted to different industrial needs, Denso continues to position itself as a major player in asset management.
Denso's value proposition Denso focuses on intelligent prevention, facing an industrial environment where materials are exposed to increasingly aggressive conditions, the company offers solutions with extended service life and measurable results.
At events such as NISTM 2025, the company reaffirms its commitment to tank and industrial asset operators: to provide technologies that ensure the integrity of facilities over time.
