Zelestra has been successfully awarded 60 MW in Italy’s FER X auction, a result that enhances its growing presence in the country’s energy transition. This achievement comes after the recent announcement of a major 2 GWh BESS(large-scale energy storage systems) project in northern Italy.
The favorable outcome of the FER X auction
In total, Zelestra has been awarded contracts for eight solar projects, 80% of which are located in northern Italy, a key region for its industrial dynamism. The Italian energy agency, Gestore dei Servizi Energetici(GSE), announced on December 1, 2025 that Zelestra secured 100% of the projects presented in the auction, underlining the company’s competitiveness in this highly competitive market.
The company aims to have the eight new solar plants fully operational by the end of the first half of 2028, contributing to the growing clean energy capacity in Italy. This success builds on a number of projects that Zelestra is developing in other regions, such as Puglia and Sicily, and complements its multi-technology strategy with a significant BESS project project in northern Italy.
Italy remains a strategic market for Zelestra, which has a portfolio of more than 1.4 GW of solar and BESS projects in the country. Recently, the company signed an agreement to purchase a large BESS project in the Italian region, further strengthening its commitment to the energy transition in the region.
This has been a year of rapid progress for Zelestra in Italy, and the success in the FER X auction allows us to end 2025 with a solid breakthrough.
The new projects will expand our geographic presence and complement our multi-technology approach, with the continued development of solar and BESS projects.
