Holland Shipyards Group has signed a contract with the Dutch Ministry of Defense for the construction of two floating platforms that will serve as military training centers in Den Helder. This is a strategic agreement that includes a 15-year maintenance commitment.
Construction of the Uhlenbeck and Thetis floating platforms
The platforms, named Uhlenbeck and Thetis, are designed to train defense personnel in naval operations, tactical simulations and specialized diving activities. Uhlenbeck, 60 meters long, will focus on operational diver training. In addition, its infrastructure includes decompression rooms, storage areas, workshops and cranes for ship handling.
Thetis, which is 64 meters long and spread over five decks, is equipped for boarding simulations, helicopter hoisting and underwater approach training. The interconnection between the two platforms will allow combined exercises that reflect real-life scenarios.
The project is the result of a collaboration between Holland Shipyards and a consortium comprising De Vries Werkendam, DWT Group, DMI-KBW, Antea Group and Royal Haskoning. The alliance aims to develop robust solutions for military training with technology adaptable to future needs.
Both platforms are built in reinforced concrete structures on pontoons, ensuring durability in demanding marine conditions. In addition to their function as training centers, they are designed to facilitate long-term maintenance and ensure operational continuity.
With this initiative, Holland Shipyards strengthens its position as a supplier of complex naval technologies technologies, contributing to the training capabilities of the Dutch Ministry of Defense. The location of the platforms in Den Helder will allow direct access of naval personnel to specialized training in a safe and controlled environment.
