The Spanish shipyard GONDAN has signed a new contract with the Norwegian company Østensjø Rederi to build an offshore tug that will set a new standard in maritime support operations. This new vessel, scheduled to be delivered in the first quarter of 2028, will become the tug tug in the Norwegian shipowner’s fleet.

A design that prioritizes power and efficiency

With a length of 50 meters and a beam of 17 meters, the vessel will offer a nominal thrust (bollard pull) of 150 tons. It will be equipped with a DP-2 dynamic positioning system that will ensure precise maneuvering even in adverse conditions.

The technical configuration will allow operation from both bow and stern by means of a single high-performance combined winch, optimizing space and operability.

Characteristics of the offshore tug

This tug will incorporate a hybrid diesel-electric diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system with methanol-ready with methanol readiness, reinforcing Østensjø Rederi and GONDAN’s energy transition strategy. The interior design contemplates living spaces for 14 crew members, with special attention to noise and vibration mitigation. RIM Drive maneuvering propellers with permanent magnets will be integrated, capable of operating quietly even under complex sea conditions, increasing crew comfort and safety.
