In a move that sets a new standard for urban aerial mobility in the region, EHang has successfully conducted a series of point-to-point urban flights with its aircraft EH216-S aircraft in Doha, Qatar. This operation, conducted in strategic partnership with the Qatari Ministry of Transport, represents the first time an autonomous eVTOL vehicle has carried passengers in an urban environment in the Middle East.

The aircraft took off from the Port of Doha and landed at the Katara Cultural Village, demonstrating the EH216-S’s ability to integrate seamlessly into the existing urban infrastructure. This route, which normally takes about 30 minutes by car, was covered in just 8 minutes, validating the potential of the eVTOL to decongest roadways through sustainable and safe solutions.

EHang boosts institutional cooperation and strategic vision

The project was authorized by the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) and is aligned with the country’s National Vision 2030. According to Minister of Transport Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Thani, this initiative is part of the ministry’s 2025-2030 strategy, which seeks to position Qatar as an international benchmark in smart mobility and reduction emissions.

The flight campaign functioned not only as a technological test, but also as a regulatory and operational exercise. The objective was to lay the groundwork for a future network of air taxis. air cabs connecting key areas such as airports, tourist areas and urban centers. The authorities also plan to integrate these solutions into the country’s intermodal transportation systems.

Towards an expanding AAM ecosystem

EHang, a Nasdaq-listed company, has led the development of pilotless electric aircraft for a variety of uses, from logistics to passenger transportation. Its model EHang EH216-S is type and production certified in China and has been tested in multiple scenarios globally. With these flights in Doha, the firm strengthens its international presence and provides a technical benchmark for the regulated adoption of autonomous air transport in other regions.

The next steps of the project include a comprehensive evaluation of the results and the adaptation of urban infrastructure to enable commercial deployment. Priorities include the creation of air corridors, take-off and landing zones, and safety protocols to ensure a smooth implementation.
