LEAG Clean Power and Fluence Energy have confirmed the construction of a 1 GW/4 GWh battery storage facility in Jänschwalde, eastern Germany. This project was named GigaBattery Jänschwalde 1000, where both companies as major players in the new European electricity ecosystem.
Battery storage platform technology
This system will use Fluence’s Smartstack platform, an advanced energy storage solution that enables flexible and efficient operation. With an autonomy of four hours, the battery pack will contribute to stabilizing stabilize the electricity grid, facilitate the integration of renewable energy renewable energies and support electricity trading.
This project is a record of the German government’s efforts to ensure a secure and sustainable grid. The Lusatia region thus becomes a laboratory of technological innovation where solar, wind, storage and flexible power plants converge, creating an ideal hub for environmentally friendly sources of electricity.
LEAG, Germany’s second-largest electricity generator, is changing its old facilities into clean production spaces. For its part, Fluence, with a global presence and a local team in Germany, brings technical expertise and digital asset management and optimization solutions.
The platform is a major strategic move to solve one of the sector’s biggest challenges: the constant availability of energy. By integrating scalable storage and renewable generation, LEAG’s GigawattFactory model seeks to replicate in other areas of the country.
