GreenYellow y Sasol inician la construcción de una planta solar de 5,1 MWp en Lombardía

Decentralized energy specialist GreenYellow and Sasol Italia, a subsidiary of the global Sasol Limited group, have started work on a new 5.1 MWp solar photovoltaic plant in the municipality of Terranova dei Passerini in Lombardy.

A solar plant adapted to industrial consumption

The plant will be located on land owned by Sasol Italia, where it will operate under a custom-designed PPA(Power Purchase Agreement) contract model. This scheme allows the company to directly consume the energy generated on site, which reduces its dependence on the grid and stabilizes its energy costs in the long term. In addition, any surplus can be managed by the company according to the terms of the agreement.

The facility is estimated to come on line in the second half of 2026 and will have an annual production of more than 7.6 GWh. This energy will cover the equivalent of the consumption of more than 2,800 Italian households and will avoid the emission of about 4,000 tons of CO₂ each year.

The partnership between GreenYellow and Sasol Italia reflects a concrete approach to the industry’s energy transition. According to Sebastian Durante, head of energy and emissions at Sasol Italia, this project is fully integrated into the company’s climate objectives. For its part, GreenYellow reaffirms its position as a catalyst for sustainable energy solutions for large industrial consumers.

This project consolidates GreenYellow’ s strategy of expanding its presence in Europe through turnkey solutions that include the study, financing, installation and maintenance of solar systems. In the words of Pierre Marouby, general manager of GreenYellow Italy, initiatives such as this allow the industry to access local, predictable and competitive energy, a decisive factor in times of high volatility in the electricity market.

The Terranova dei Passerini plantthus becomes a benchmark for how technological partnerships can translate into tangible energy improvements for the industry, while contributing to national climate commitments.

GreenYellow, with a presence in 15 countries and more than 1,400 industrial customers, adds this project to its European portfolio after achieving the avoidance of more than 546,000 tons of CO₂ by 2024. For its part, Sasol International Chemicals strengthens its sustainability strategy in the northern hemisphere by integrating clean energy solutions into its industrial operations.
