The oil company Petrobras has awarded Allseas a major contract for the subsea development of the Atapu-2 field, located 230 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. This project involves the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of a complex network of pipelines in water depths exceeding 2,000 meters.

The scope includes 143 kilometers of risers and flowlines that will link 18 wells to a new floating production unit (FPSO). In addition, a lazy wave steel catenary configuration will be employed, designed to operate in extreme pressure environments and demanding geothermal conditions. Components such as flexible joints, jumpers and pipe terminations will also be integrated to close the production loop.

This contract is in addition to the Búzios-10 project, with similar technical specifications, but smaller in scope. Together, the two represent some of the most demanding challenges faced by the Swiss company in its four decades of operations.

The offshore execution is scheduled for the first quarter of 2029 and will be carried out by the Audacia, a vessel specialized in offshore pipelaying. This vessel has previously been deployed in other complex operations in the South Atlantic.

To support both developments, Allseas has expanded its local capacity with an engineering and project management center in Rio de Janeiro. In addition, subcontracts are being coordinated with Brazilian suppliers for the production of seamless pipes. production of seamless pipes, internaland critical components such as flexible steel risers are also being coordinated with Brazilian suppliers.

According to André de Melo, general manager of Allseas in Brazil, this contract reflects Petrobras’ confidence in the firm’s technical expertise and operational capacity in the Latin American offshore market.

The Atapu-2 contract reinforcesPetrobras’ commitment to the development of oil infrastructure in the Brazilian pre-salt and consolidates Allseas as a strategic player in the execution of high-tech subsea projects. The collaboration also strengthens the regional supply chain and opens new opportunities for local talent and industry specialized in offshore energy.
