Recently, the self-elevating platform PV DRILLING IX, owned by PetroVietnam Drilling & Well Service Corporation (PV Drilling), sailed from the port of Esbjerg, Denmark, towed to Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This move marks the beginning of its return to Vietnam, after successfully completing the first phase of technical reactivation in Europe.

During September and October, a technical team from PV Drilling based in Denmark conducted a series of inspections and tests to verify compliance with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) standards. Systems reviewed included engines, generators, safety systems, cranes and hoisting mechanisms, exceeding technical controls.

Stopover in Rotterdam and next preparation phase

As scheduled, PV DRILLING IX will arrive at the port of Rotterdam on November 3 to be loaded onto a heavy transport vessel. specialized heavy lift vessel and from there and from there to Vietnam, where it is expected to arrive at the end of December 2025.

The second reactivation phase will be carried out in Vietnamese territory, focusing on final adjustments before joining the first drilling campaign scheduled for April 2026. This operation will be fundamental to strengthen PV Drilling’s operational capacity, especially in a regional market that demands advanced technical solutions.

Platform details

Designed by Friede Goldman under the 2000E model, the PV DRILLING IXformerly known as Noble Highlander, is one of the most widely used self-elevating rigs in international offshore operations. It is equipped with the NOV BLM automated lifting system, which allows it to drill up to 30,000 feet and operate in water depths of up to 425 feet.

Thanks to its robust engineering, this unit is prepared for long duration drilling campaigns, especially in environments with complex geological structures such as the North SeaMiddle East and Southeast Asia.

PV Drilling strengthens its fleet for 2026

With the reinstatement of the PV DRILLING IX, PV Drilling seeks to consolidate its leadership in the offshore drilling services industry. offshore drilling in the region. The arrival of this rig will increase the availability of high technical performance equipment, in a context where energy and exploration demand continues to grow.
