The West Elara platform, owned by Seadrill and currently operating in the Ekofisk field under contract to ConocoPhillips, has reinforced its position as one of the most advanced and reliable units in the North Sea. Since its commissioning in 2011, the platform has been designed to operate in extreme offshore environments, and today makes a difference with a level of efficiency and safety that stands out within the offshore industry.
Technical characteristics of the platform
Built in Singapore and delivered more than a decade ago, West Elara is a jack-up platform. jack-up rig capable of drilling up to 35,000 ft. jack-up rig capable of drilling up to 35,000 feet. Its design is oriented to face severe conditions thanks to its equipment with Hydril blowout preventers capable of withstanding pressures up to 15,000 psi, as well as Caterpillar C280 engines that guarantee stable performance even in the most demanding operations.
The platform incorporates a selective catalytic reduction system, capable of reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by up to 95%, which actively contributes to meeting Europe’s strictest environmental standards.
Achievements and recognitions: The proof of your success
The West Elara platform has the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority’s Recognition of Compliance, a fundamental endorsement that certifies the compliance of its operating processes with the regulations in force in the Scandinavian country.
During the third quarter of 2024, the platform was named Platform of the Quarter, a distinction awarded for its exceptional operational performance, risk management and safety protocols. In addition, ConocoPhillips received the 2024 Supplier Recognition Award from ConocoPhillips, which highlights the excellence of the collaboration between the two companies in the Ekofisk field.
These awards reflect Seadrill’s ability to Seadrill to maintain world-class technical and human standards, maximizing efficiency without compromising safety or environmental impact.
A strategic alliance at Ekofisk
