Over the past two years, Wescott Industrial Services has successfully completed a complex maintenance campaign at the offshore wind farm East Anglia ONE, owned by ScottishPower Renewables. The operation focused on the technical repair of the coatings of the 102 cranes located on the Main Access Platform (MAP), implementing innovative solutions and prioritizing safety in highly demanding environments.

Innovations in the repair of offshore coatings

One of the main challenges was the maritime environment. To address this, Wescott employed a multi-layer repair system that allowed it to work beyond conventional relative humidity and dew point limits. This optimized performance in the available climatic windows, a critical factor for offshore projects. offshore projects.

In addition, in areas that are difficult to access, such as crane booms, a coating technique was applied to single-layer coating technique single-layer coating technique was applied using rope access, eliminating the need for scaffolding and significantly reducing operational risks.

Coordination and efficiency during the campaign

The campaign required a daily average of 20 specialized technicians deployed at the wind farm, with simultaneous operations management (SIMOPS) for blasting and painting. This coordination allowed maintaining a high level of productivity and quality, in line with ScottishPower Renewables’ operational standards.

During the entire process, more than 55,800 working hours were accumulated without any incidents involving sick leave, reflecting a solid preventive culture.

Personnel and materials were transported by two CTV hybrid vessels. hybrid CTVs, selected for their energy efficiency and low environmental impact.hybrid vessels, selected for their energy efficiency and low environmental impact. This choice reinforces the sustainable approach of the project, aligned with SPR’s long-term strategy for its renewable facilities.

Strategic alliance with ScottishPower Renewables

The collaboration between Wescott and ScottishPower Renewables was key. Wescott’s operational flexibility and its ability to adapt methodologies according to marine conditions allowed them to move forward safely and efficiently. SPR highlighted the quality of the work, the coordination of the teams and the implementation of continuous improvements based on the experience acquired.

With this intervention, the wind farm East Anglia ONE wind farm consolidates its generation capacity of 714 MW of clean energy, enough to cover the demand of around 700,000 homes, guaranteeing its sustained operation over time under rigorous industrial standards.
