Apple becomes the counterparty to Econergy Renewable Energy’ s first virtual power purchase agreement (vPPA) in Poland. The contract is linked to the solar photovoltaic project Resko, a 52 MW facility (40 MW in alternating current), and represents an achievement for both companies in their sustainability strategies.
19-year solar vPPA to drive Polish energy transition
The vPPA signed in 2024 will have a duration of 19 years and will cover 75% of the project’s energy production, under a pay-as-you-go model. This will allow Apple to access renewable energy locally generated renewable energy, while Econergy guarantees stable revenues for its development.
Resko will be Econergy’s first solar development in Poland. It is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2025 and will be financed with EUR 33 million in senior debt from PKO Bank Polski. This financial collaboration underlines the institutional interest in initiatives aligned with national climate objectives.
Econergy consolidates its portfolio in an emerging market
The project is part of a national portfolio of approximately 2.5 GW of solar and storage assets that the company is developing in Poland. The single-axis tracker technology installed at Resko will optimize production during critical hours, aligning with industry efficiency standards.
The agreement strengthens Apple’s climate strategy in Europe, adding to other initiatives with which the company is seeking to neutralize its carbon footprint its carbon footprint throughout its supply chain. This alliance is evidence of how large corporations are adopting tools such as vPPAs to advance their global environmental goals.
