A solar plant is being built on the roof of the Centro Ambiental de Recomposición Energética(CARE) in La Matanza, promoting decentralized electricity production in Buenos Aires. With an installed capacity of 250 kWp, the system will consist of 500 solar panels connected to the EDENOR grid.

The initiative is part of the municipal program La Matanza Solar(LMS), which seeks to integrate renewable energies energy into public projects and promote equitable access to energy. The plant will generate clean electricity equivalent to the consumption of about 100 homes and is expected to operate for more than 25 years.

The General Undersecretariat of the Environment and Sustainable Development is leading this action, aimed at generating electricity for institutional self-consumption and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, the space will function as an educational center where the community will be able to learn about the operation of a solar plant connected to the grid.

The work includes on-grid inverters, support structures, cabling and a meteorological monitoring system. Moreover, its connection to EDENOR’s grid guarantees a safe and stable injection of renewable energy, contributing to the strengthening of a cleaner energy matrix.

In addition to supplying clean electricity to public facilities, the LMS program seeks to build local capacity in solar energy, with training for social and business actors in the district.

The local government promotes a fair energy transition with direct impact on the most vulnerable neighborhoods. The objective is to improve access to electricity and reduce public costs through distributed generation.
