The Benahadux substation has completed its expansion after receiving operating authorization from the Regional Government of Andalusia. With three new positions enabled, the infrastructure is consolidated as a strategic point to feed the new railway corridors of the Mediterranean Corridor and the high-speed connection between Granada and Almeria.

After an investment of close to 2 million euros, Red Eléctrica a subsidiary of Redeia, has supplied the facility with capacity to meet the growing demand of modern rail transport. modern rail transport.. This action is part of the plans to strengthen the power transmission grid in the southeast of the peninsula and guarantee a stable service in the provinces of Almeria and Granada.
The extension improves the quality of supply, and strengthens the distribution grid while expanding the evacuation capacity of renewable generation in the area. This is essential to facilitate the integration of new solar and wind power plants into the eastern Andalusian electricity system, meeting the country’s energy transition goals.
The intervention in Benahadux is in addition to other projects underway such as the extension of the Íllora substation (220 kV), which will link up with the future Saleres substation, and the modernization of the Tabernas node (400 kV), a strategic location in the electrification of the Mediterranean Corridor.
Red Eléctrica continues to make progress in its commitment to improve energy infrastructures in Andalusia.
