DEME leads installation of Formosa 4 offshore wind farm in Taiwan

The execution of the park is planned in phases, allowing for a staggered integration of infrastructure and technological equipment.

The Formosa 4 offshore wind farm becomes a strategic piece in Taiwan’s energy transition, with a generation capacity of 495 MW. This project will be located about 20 kilometers off the coast of Miaoli County and already has DEME’ s participation through its joint venture CDWE.

The contract and deployment at Formosa 4 offshore wind farm

This agreement contemplates the transportation and installation of 35 foundations and a marine substation, together with the execution of works for protection against erosion of the seabed . This type of infrastructure is essential to ensure the stability of wind turbines in complex ocean conditions.

DEME has confirmed that it will be using several assets from its fleet, including the vessel Green Jadeoperated by CDWE. This vessel, designed and built in Taiwan, specializes in highly complex marine installation operations. In addition, a rock placement vessel will be employed to strengthen the structural protection of the park.

The project is promoted by the local company Synera Renewable Energy and is in line with the Taiwanese government’s objectives to increase the proportion of clean energy in its energy mix. The integration of European technology and local capabilities reflects a model of efficient cooperation in offshore energy development.

The construction of the Formosa 4 wind farm represents an important step towards strengthening the country’s marine infrastructure and consolidating Taiwan as a benchmark for renewable energy in the Asia-Pacific region.

The participation of CDWE in such projects boosts the development of the local marine engineering industry. The use of Green Jade symbolizes a breakthrough in Taiwan’s ability to execute complex projects with its own resources, integrating international experience with regional talent.

The park is planned to be built in phases, allowing for a phased integration of infrastructure and equipment. Once in operation, Formosa 4 will make a significant contribution to the supply of renewable energy to the Taiwanese power system.
