The XXI SLOM Conference began in Panama with broad participation

This Wednesday in Panama City the XXI SLOM Conference with an outstanding attendance of professionals of the maritime-petroleum sector and the support of leading companies of the continent. The event is being held at the Megapolis Convention Center and will take place until September 26, with an agenda focused on the strategic role of the human factor in the management of maritime terminals.

The day includes institutional presentations by Petroterminal de Panamá, AMPP and TRANSPETRO, followed by a workshop focused on the integration of the human factor, moderated by SLOM. Lectures will address topics such as mooring system design, work safety culture, leadership at the ship-terminal interface, hose durability, ISPS code in Brazilian terminals, and the impact of simulation technologies in maritime operations.

Highlights of the XXI SLOM Day

In an interview with Gonzalo Mera Truffini vice-president of SLOM y Jorge Pilay Manager of Preparedness and Response for the Americas for OSRLthe Inspenet team obtained details about the“Oil Spill Response Initiative” exercise, led by SLOM and OSRL, in which an oil spill scenario was simulated to evaluate emergency response capabilities.

The dynamics, based on a case that occurred in Peru, allowed participants to act in real time, analyzing strategic decisions, human and environmental priorities and the role of communication in critical situations.

Gonzalo Mera Truffini emphasized that this type of exercise is key to strengthening preparedness in the region and that the commitment shown by the participants was exemplary. Jorge Pilay highlighted the seriousness with which the teams faced the challenge, noting that the decisions made during the activity reflected leadership, deep analysis and responsibility.

The initiative also allowed observing emotional reactions, decision making under pressure and high-level debates among the teams, who discussed aspects such as the priority of human beings versus environmental or economic impact. OSRL emphasized that this type of peacetime training is essential for an effective response at the moment of truth.

Likewise, attendees participated in networking spaces and in the opening of the business exhibition, consolidating the event as a meeting point for innovation and continuous improvement in the industry.
