OceanWings is moving towards the decarbonization of shipping by receiving the Type Approval Design Certificate(TADC) from DNV. This certification officially validates the company’s automated rigid-sail propulsion system, in both its tilting and fixed versions, as a safe, reliable and ready-to-operate solution in real sailing conditions.
Important TADC developments
The delivery of the TADC coincides with the International Shipping Week in London, strengthening the company’s positioning as a mature and certified technology to support the industry’s energy transition. This system has been designed to facilitate compliance with emerging regulations such as IMO’s MEPC 83/84, FuelEU Maritime and the Global Fuel Standard(GFS).
This recognition, the result of working together with the DNV team, prepares us for any market acceleration following the GFS vote at the IMO in October.
Emmanuel Schalit, CEO of OceanWings.
The certification simplifies system integration on commercial vessels, streamlining class approval processes and reducing technical risks for shipowners, shipyards and flag states. It also strengthens the company’s confidence as a ready solution to support energy efficiency and emission reduction in shipping in the market.
With the award of this Type Approval Design Certificate, we send the clearest signal to date to the industry that this system is ready to go.
At DNV, we continue to develop our standards in WAPS to accompany the move towards a greener maritime future.
Cristina Sáenz de Santa María, Operations Director of DNV Maritime.
