Swedish energy company Vattenfall has signed an agreement with EMS Maritime Offshore BV (EMO) for the use of the port facilities. Eemshaven’s strategic location, off the island of Borkum, provides direct access to the German Exclusive Economic Zone, making the port an essential logistics hub for the offshore wind sector.

The Nordlicht 1 and 2 project will have a combined capacity of 1,600 MW and will have 112 Vestas will have 112 state-of-the-art Vestas turbines. turbines. The first units will be commissioned in 2027 and the wind farm will be fully operational in 2028.

The O&M base will include storage areas, technical workshops and offices. EMO will begin construction of the building in late 2025 , with completion scheduled for October 2026. The design will include accessibility and sustainability criteria, with photovoltaic systemssystems, heat pumps and environmentally friendly building materials..

Vattenfall will also have complementary logistics services: SOV and CTV vessels will be able to operate from EMO’s floating dock, ensuring efficiency in the mobilization of personnel and technical machinery.

Eemshaven, a key node in offshore wind energy

This move adds to efforts to consolidate Eemshaven as a hub for renewable energy in Europe. renewable energy in Europe. Other operators such as RWE, Ørsted and EnBW already use the port for their parks in the North Sea region.

The new facility will facilitate faster and cleaner deployment of equipment. By reducing the distance from port to platform, significant logistical and environmental savings are achieved, key to Vattenfall’s strategy to achieve climate neutrality in its value chain by 2040.
