Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners(CIP) CI V fund has closed the purchase of the Beehive battery system, a 1 GWh capacity project located in Peoria, Arizona. This acquisition was made from EDF Power Solutions North America, consolidating CIP as a strategic player in clean energy infrastructure in the United States.

A Beehive battery system for the Arizona power grid

Beehive technology is designed to store energy during times of high renewable generation and release it during peak demand hours. With 250 megawatts of power and a four-hour duration, Beehive will contribute to the stability of Arizona’s grid.

This project has a 20-year tolling contract with Arizona Public Service Company(APS), the state’s main electric utility company, which serves more than 1.4 million users in 11 counties.

EDF Power Solutions began construction of the project in early 2025. CIP will now take over management until commercial completion, scheduled for the first half of 2026. The objective is to ensure that the system comes online on schedule and contributes to meeting the increase in energy demand in the region.

EDF organizations such as CIP demonstrate the importance of energy storage as a complement to renewable energies. renewable energies. Beehive represents a relevant step in the strategy of both companies to support the decarbonization of the electricity system and expand the capacity of clean energy integration.

EDF Power Solutions will continue to collaborate with CIP during the construction phase, providing its expertise in the deployment of storage solutions. This project strengthens EDF’s position in the North American market as a service provider and developer of low carbon footprint infrastructure.

The CI V fund, which exceeded $14 billion at its final closing, is focused on global investments in clean energy. With Beehive, CIP enhances its presence in the US market, adding a new asset in storage technologies that accompany the electrification and digitization of the energy system.
