In West Papua, Indonesia, the construction phase of the Tangguh UCC project officially began with the steel cutting ceremony held at the Karimun shipyard in Saipem. This event marks the kick-off of a far-reaching far-reaching energy plan led by the Indonesian led by BP’s Indonesian subsidiary and executed by the Italian company Saipem.

Tangguh UCC’s infrastructure and projection

Development Tangguh UCC development includes the expansion of natural gas natural gas production through the addition of two wellhead platforms, a CO₂ reinjection unit and the installation of approximately 90 kilometers of pipelines and subsea cables. In addition, it integrates carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technology (CCUS) technology to optimize resource utilization and reduce emissions.

The Karimun shipyard, considered Saipem’s largest manufacturing center worldwide and one of the largest in Southeast Asia, will play a central role in the construction of highly complex EPC modules. With more than 5,000 employees and an area of 1.4 million square meters, the facility is equipped to meet exacting standards of safety, reliability and performance.

The development of this offshore field is expected to unlock around 3 trillion cubic feet of additional natural gas resources, strengthening Indonesia’s position as a key supplier in the regional energy market. The use of advanced technologies and focus on sustainability underpin the strategic relevance of the project.
