Guangzhou delivers second dual-fuel vehicle carrier to BYD

With this delivery, GSI reaches 127,600 vehicle transport seats delivered on LNG-powered vessels.

Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), under the management of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has completed the delivery of the BYD Zhengzhou, the second LNG-powered vehicle carrier LNG and diesel-powered vehicle carrier ship ordered by the BYD Group. The delivery ceremony took place on July 16 in Nansha, Guangzhou.

Characteristics of the vehicle carrier

This vessel, with a length of 199.9 meters and a beam of 38 meters, is designed to reach speeds of up to 18.5 knots. It integrates a dual propulsion system of liquefied natural gas and a permanent magnet shaft generator. and a permanent magnet shaft generator.

These technologies, along with antifouling coatings and energy-saving devices, reinforce its focus on environmental efficiency and sustainable shipping.

Logistics expansion after delivery of BYD Zhengzhou

The “BYD Zhengzhou” joins its twin, the “BYD Hefei”, delivered in January. Both are part of BYD’s own fleet aimed at strengthening the export of automobiles manufactured in China. In addition, the company has opted to diversify its maritime logistics by incorporating other vessels, such as the “BYD Explorer No.1“and the “BYD Changzhou”, built in other shipyards such as CIMC Raffles.

With this delivery, GSI expands its track record in vehicle transport vessels, with a total of 17 units with a capacity of 7,000 vehicles and one with 8,600. In total, 127,600 transport places have been delivered. The shipyard has succeeded in positioning itself as a leader in low-emission naval solutionswith an order backlog of close to 40 units for this segment.

GSI’s strategy focuses on continuous innovation and lean management, which has enabled it to optimize processes and significantly improve productivity. Today, the shipyard maintains a diversified product matrix ranging from tankers and container ships to polar-class ro-ro vessels and high-end ferries.
