Ignitis Renewables opens its first solar park in Latvia

The new farm is only the first of three projects that will together exceed 400 MW of installed capacity in Latvia.

Ignitis Group has commissioned the Vārme solar park in the municipality of Kuldīga, marking its operational entry into the Latvian solar market. The plant occupies 110 hectares and is equipped with 156,000 solar panelscapable of generating energy to supply more than 40,000 households per year.

This development represents a strategic step in Ignitis Renewables’ expansion within the Baltic region. According to Darius Maikštėnas, CEO of the group, the goal is to strengthen the renewable infrastructure in Latvia and lay the foundation for a competitive and sustainable energy system in Eastern Europe.

More about the Vārme solar park

The total investment in Vārme amounts to EUR 66 million. The park will operate under market conditions and will contribute to the local supply of clean energy. In addition, the project has been developed with the participation of local communities, respecting environmental standards and promoting social benefits in the environment.

The company is currently building two other large-scale solar projects in Latvia: Stelpe (145 MW) and Tume (174 MW). Together, these three parks will exceed 400 MW of installed capacity, enabling the demand of almost 200,000 households to be met.
