On July 31, Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona marked a new breakthrough in its shipbuilding agenda. shipbuilding by setting afloat the “Viking Mira“, a new cruise ship commissioned by the Viking company. The vessel, classified within the small ocean-going vessel segment, is designed to carry up to 998 passengers and will have 499 cabins distributed over a 54,300 gross tonnage hull.
Viking Mira ready to start operations
The launching represents the vessel’s transition to its final construction phase, focused on interior outfitting and sea trials.. As announced, commissioning is scheduled for spring 2026, with routes planned for the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.

The ceremony was attended by Gilberto Tobaldi, director of the Ancona shipyard, and Gastone Lazzari, head of Viking’s newbuilding team, who emphasized the continuity of the strategic link between the two entities. To date, the Italian shipyard has built or contracted a total of 28 vessels for the Scandinavian shipping company.
Cruise technology and sustainability
In addition to its sleek design, the Viking Mira will be built to the highest international safety and sustainability standards. It will include exhaust gas treatment systems, high-efficiency engines and state-of-the-art and state-of-the-art environmental technologies.
