Central European Petroleum(CEP) has confirmed the discovery of a major oil field in the Wolin East 1 well, located in the Baltic Sea, just 6 kilometers off the Polish coast. The well was drilled with a jack-up rig to a depth of 2715 meters, and revealed a hydrocarbon column of 62 meters and an oil quality of 33.4° API.

The potential resources of the Wolin East deposit

The Wolin East field is estimated to contain up to 200 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalent, including marketable gas and natural gas liquids. In addition, low-risk development opportunities exist in the same Main Dolomite geological formation and in the deeper Rotliegend, bringing the total potential of the concession to over 400 mmboe.

According to CEP, this discovery represents a pillar for the sustainable development of offshore resources. offshore resources resources of the country. If confirmed, it could become the largest hydrocarbon field found so far on Polish territory. National authorities cite its potential impact on reducing dependence on energy imports.

Conceptual studies are currently being developed for the necessary infrastructure, using advanced technology and in collaboration with strategic actors in the sector. CEP has held 100% of the Wolin exploration license since 2017, and anticipates an orderly transition to the development and exploitation phase of the field.

This discovery comes against a European backdrop of the search for new energy sources. The Wolin East field could establish itself as one of the most important discoveries of the decade in Europe, and serve as a basis for strengthening the region’s energy security and autonomy.
