At the recent AMPP LatinCORR 2025 conference in Panama, Peter C. Blum, Elcometer’s Global Division Manager and Spray Equipment Division, shared the company’s vision on the challenges and solutions in industrial asset protection. The company, with more than 70 years of experience, has positioned itself as a benchmark in industrial inspection and painting equipment, with a presence in more than 170 countries.

Protection of industrial assets: today’s challenge

Today, the protection of industrial assets such as pipelines and metallic structures is essential to guarantee their useful life and reduce long-term costs. Tropical climate, ambient humidity, and surface preparation quality directly influence the durability of protective coatings.

Elcometer emphasizes that the correct application of the coating depends not only on the product used, but also on accurate measurements of the surface profile and environmental conditions prior to painting.

Elcometer equipment for quality assurance

Among the equipment the company presented at the event, Blum mentioned the Elcometer 456, designed to measure the thickness of the applied coating. In addition, he highlighted the relevance of moisture meters, which allow contractors to determine the right time to apply primers after surface preparation.

In addition, the calibration of these instruments is essential to ensure reliable measurements. For this reason, the company provides calibration certificates with each instrument and recommends that the instruments be checked annually by authorized distributors.

Elcometer Tornado: the new solution in airless pumps

The company also presented the Elcometer Tornado, an industrial airless pump developed over four years following the acquisition of the Spanish company Segola. This equipment is designed to apply high-viscosity coatings with high efficiency and control, enabling contractors to achieve uniform finishes at the right thickness.

Airless operation consists of atomizing paint at high pressure through a very small nozzle, creating a homogeneous spray fan, which significantly improves productivity and quality in demanding industrial applications.

Innovation and service as Elcometer’s pillars

Peter Blum emphasized that the company is not a “me-too” company, i.e. it does not simply copy what is already on the market, but is constantly innovating products tailored to the real needs of contractors and inspectors. In Blum’s words, when customers choose Elcometer, they are buying the promise of a great service, not just a tangible product.

The company also addresses the challenges of rapidly changing environmental regulations in different countries by developing solutions that enable users to comply with these requirements and maintain the protection of industrial assets in optimal conditions.

Global commitment to quality and specialized support

With offices in the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Singapore and the USA, the company ensures specialized local support, including training, technical reviews and calibration in local languages. In addition, it maintains an extensive network of distributors to make its equipment available in any region.

Its commitment to quality is reflected in its certifications ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications, as well as compliance with international standards such as CE and RoHS, guaranteeing products suitable for the protection of high-value industrial assets.

Elcometer reinforces its leadership in the industrial sector with precise technologies for inspection and coating application. Its new Elcometer Tornado represents a further step in its strategy of innovation and commitment to the protection of industrial assets in Latin America.
