LS Cable & System expands its HVDC cable leadership in Asia

The new submarine cable plant quadruples LS Cable & System's production capacity, making it the largest producer in Asia.

It is with great satisfaction that I am pleased to share with you that LS Cable & System has completed the construction of its fifth submarine cable plant in Donghae, Gangwon-do. This new facility will quadruple the production capacity of HVDC cablescables, consolidating the company as Asia’s largest producer in this key segment for long-distance power transmission.

Market expansion and Korean commitment

On the other hand, the HVDC cable market continues to expand thanks to the demand from offshore wind energy projects. offshore wind energy and the growing need to transmit electricity between distant regions. South Korea is betting heavily on these developments, and LS Cable & System is strategically positioned to lead this process.

In parallel, LS Marine Solutiona subsidiary of the group, has decided to build a vessel specialized in the laying of HVDC submarine cables, which will make it possible to offer complete solutions: from the production of the cables to their installation at sea.

Submarine cable plant progress and prospects

The fifth plant also has a vertical continuous vulcanization (VCV) line, an essential technology for guaranteeing the quality of insulation and electrical stability of long-haul high-voltage cables capable of extending hundreds of kilometers under the sea.

Finally, it is estimated that the global HVDC cable market could reach 40 trillion KRW by 2030. LS Cable & System anticipates taking advantage of this trend by actively participating in flagship projects such as the Korea West Coast HVDC Power Highway.
