The Elmhurst Park District has taken a major leap in its environmental commitment with the commissioning of a 674.96 kW solar photovoltaic installation. Located at the Courts Plus sports facilities, this solar solar plant will supply approximately 754 MWh of clean electricity each year, covering nearly 50% of the district’s operational energy consumption.
Elmhurst solar installation reduces costs and emissions
The project was developed by General Energy Corporation, a company with nearly four decades of experience in energy efficiency and a leader in solar integration. The initiative was financed through a power purchase agreement (PPA) with DSD Renewables 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with DSD Renewables, which will also operate the system over the long term. This approach avoided upfront costs for the district and guarantees monthly savings on its electric bill.
Projections indicate that the district will experience a net financial benefit of nearly $307,000. close to $307,000 over the term of the agreement. over the term of the agreement. This is in addition to the elimination of emissions equivalent to retiring more than 100 gasoline-powered vehicles per year, cementing Elmhurst’s role as a leader in sustainable public space management.
Angela M. Ferrentino, the district’s works manager, emphasized that this initiative goes beyond an infrastructure improvement: “It is an investment in our parks, our community and the planet. This action is part of a broader strategy of modernizing services with environmentally responsible criteria.
Solar energy improves quality of life in Elmhurst
The project integrates state-of-the-art clean technologies and is part of the DSD developer network, which provides technical support to regional initiatives.
Projects such as this one bring the energy transition to everyday spaces and improve the quality of life of the community.
Tony Jaswal, vice president of General Energy, said.
With this installation, Elmhurst reinforces its position as a benchmark in solar energy at the municipal level and makes it clear that the adoption of clean technology is a key tool for a more equitable and sustainable energy future.
