The Seine Aval wastewater treatment plant, which serves six million inhabitants of the Paris metropolitan area, has inaugurated its state-of-the-art biogas production unit. biogas production unit. SIAAP and SUEZ are leading this ambitious project that strengthens energy efficiency and sustainability in the region.
About the new biogas plant
This unit enables the annual transformation of 130,000 tons of sludge into local energy and fertilizer, contributing to the plant’s self-sufficiency, which now covers 56% of its energy needs. Thanks to advanced technologies such as Digelis® Fastthe plant optimizes its performance and reduces energy consumption by 10% compared to traditional methods.
Moreover, the infrastructure stands out for its compact and safe design. With only 11 digesters, compared to the previous 26, it frees up space and improves adaptability to sludge variations. The use of low-carbon concrete and thermal efficiency solutions reflect a commitment to reducing environmental impact.
In the words of its managers, the collaboration between SIAAP and SUEZ consolidates the plant as a European benchmark in green energy, while ensuring resource recovery and environmental protection.
