The Ghanaian delegation seeks to project investment opportunities in its energy sector, during the 23rd World Petroleum Congress, which takes place this week in Houston, Texas, USA, where the vision of the global contribution of the oil sector is summarized and gas.

The Ghanaian representation is led by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Lawrence Apaalse, under the authority of the Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh. The delegation includes the Director of General Administration of the Ministry, Mrs. Wilhelmina Asamoah, Executive Director of the Petroleum Commission, Egbert Faibille Jnr., Director General of the NPA, Mustapha Hamid and other senior officials from the energy sector.

Projected investment opportunities include upstream, downstream, renewable and nuclear energy. Ghana will also reiterate its current position on the energy transition, ie Africa should be allowed to pursue an oil exploration agenda in the context of the energy transition due to differences in the growth trajectory between Africa and developed countries.

In the area of nuclear power, Ghana ranks third in Africa, in terms of readiness to invite bids for contracts for the establishment of the first nuclear power plant in Ghana. The delegation will reiterate that with carbon-free sources, the world and energy players will make energy affordable for industry and this will enable Ghana to fulfill its vision of being a net exporter of clean energy to the West African sub-region.

In addition, the delegation defends Ghana’s gas potential as the cleanest gas of all fossil fuels and encourages investors to invest in the country. The Petroleum Commission, the country’s upstream oil regulator participating as an exhibitor, will showcase Ghana’s hydrocarbon resources through acreage for exploration and farm opportunities. The Commission will also guide investors through the country’s legal and regulatory regime, its tax and economic system and will point out that Ghana is very stable politically and has a strong business track record.

The World Petroleum Congress will reaffirm global commitments to the Paris Agreement, as highlighted at the recent COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland. Energy industry experts are optimistic that this energy meeting in Houston will cement the world’s energy future and Ghana will make the most of this conference.
