Ocean Installer has been selected by Vår Energi to execute an EPCI (engineering, procurement, construction and installation) contract for the sixth phase of the Balder field development, on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. This new award is part of the strategic alliance between the two companies since 2022.
Subsea connection to FPSO Jotun
The scope of the contract contemplates SURF activities, including the fabrication and installation of flexible flowlines and umbilicals. The main objective is to connect subsea pipelines to the floating production vessel Jotunwhich came into operation at the end of June.
According to the established timelines, the first oil of the Balder Phase VI project is expected to Balder Phase VI project project is expected to be delivered by the end of 2026. This tight schedule has been made possible by utilizing existing infrastructure and the history of collaboration between the two companies since 2019.
For the past five years, Ocean Installer has been a key partner in the Balder area, contributing to the deployment of subsea solutions around the Jotun FPSO. With this new phase, the commitment of both parties to advance the efficient development of mature fields in the North Sea is strengthened.
Technical experience in the Balder contract
Kevin Murphy, CEO of Ocean Installer, noted that subsea connections have been the mainstay of the business for 14 years. In his opinion, the accumulated experience is crucial to accelerate projects in marginal areas and optimize resources.
The development of Balder Phase VI is integrated into Vår Energi’s North Sea hub strategy. In the near term, the company plans new opportunities in the region, with a focus on existing infrastructure and targeted exploration.
