Ecopetrol, Accenture and Amazon Web Services announced a first-of-its-kind solution for water management and intelligence, which will help advance sustainability and operational efficiency for energy companies.

This new solution, which will be hosted on an open platform, addresses the entire water life cycle, from access to treatment, recycling/reuse and disposal, allowing organizations to pursue water neutrality along with net emissions. zero carbon for a sustainable future.

In close collaboration with Ecopetrol and AWS, Accenture developed a platform for smart water management, from access to treatment, through recycling and final disposal.

This system also applies advanced analysis to optimize water management and improve the integrated management of water efficiency; creating an ecosystem where participants can share data and promote water reuse within and across industries.

According to the companies, the water intelligence and management solution will leverage Accenture’s industry insights and AWS cloud-leading capabilities such as high-performance computing, storage, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

The solution will help Ecopetrol reduce its water footprint by providing a better understanding of how to reduce the amount of freshwater it captures from local sources to improve water treatment. As well as increasing the reuse of produced water and wastewater in refining, exploration and production assets.

“Our vision is for the energy industry to be a leader in technological solutions to achieve water neutrality,” said Felipe Bayón, president of Ecopetrol.

“Conservation and sustainable management of water is a top priority for communities and businesses around the world, and leveraging the breadth and depth of AWS, Ecopetrol and Accenture are tackling this challenge at scale,” said Adam Selipsky, CEO. from AWS.

“Like other sustainability initiatives, water conservation is a big data problem. By combining data from previously disparate sources across Ecopetrol’s operations and using AWS cloud-based machine learning and artificial intelligence services, this technology will enable companies in the energy industry to achieve water neutrality,” added Selipsky.
