Norway’s Kongsberg Maritime has been selected to supply a complete technology package to four offshore construction vessels(OCVs) ordered by Sea1 Offshore and built at Cosco Nantong Shipyard, China.

Integration of LCS vessels for cleaner operations

The Kongsberg supply includes advanced K-Pos dynamic positioning systems, navigation control, azimuthal propulsion units with permanent magnet motors supply includes advanced K-Pos dynamic positioning systems, navigation control, azimuthal propulsion units with permanent magnet motors and a battery-powered hybrid DC electrical architecture. The entire package has been designed to optimize energy consumption, reduce emissions and provide reliability in demanding environments.

Both companies are developing, in parallel, a comparative study that will allow quantifying the emission reductions derived from the integrated solutions. The analysis will cover propulsion systems and energy management during maneuvers, port stays and crane, ROV and gangway operations.

Moreover, the high-capacity shore connection, combined with a robust battery system and a state-of-the-art power controller, will enable the OCV vessels to operate without local emissions during their port stays. In addition, variable speed engines will allow the use of diesel, biodiesel or methanol fuels, increasing operational flexibility and minimizing the environmental impact of operations.

The integration of these systems in the new vessels strengthens Sea1 Offshore ‘s commitment to a more efficient and environmentally responsible operation. For Kongsberg Maritime, it represents a breakthrough in the adoption of integrated technologies that strengthen the company as a benchmark in sustainable technologies for the marine industry.
