Severe wildfire threats in northern Manitoba have prompted Hudbay Minerals to activate its emergency response plan and orderly suspend operations at Snow Lake.
Temporary cessation of operations at Snow Lake
Hudbay has intensified its collaboration with emergency services and provincial authorities to ensure the well-being of its employees and nearby residents. The company has authorized only essential personnel to remain in Snow Lake to support primary work while protecting the mine infrastructure from potential hazards.
As part of its immediate actions, the company provided $1 million in direct assistance to employees affected by the evacuation. In addition, a Community Relief Donation Fund was created with a matching donation system by Hudbay.
Although operations are temporarily suspended, the company has confirmed that both the Snow Lake and Flin Flon facilities are protected and at low risk of fire damage.. In addition, technical and response teams continue to monitor the situation to facilitate a safe restart when conditions allow.
On the other hand, Hudbay has indicated that its performance so far this year allows it to maintain annual projections for the Manitoba region. Exploration activities at Flin Flon and Snow Lake are also on hold while emergency actions are prioritized.

In the face of the spreading wildfires, Hudbay has taken additional steps to support our employees, including $1 million in direct financial support and the establishment of a Community Relief Donation Fund.
We are working closely with local communities and municipal and provincial authorities to provide support during these difficult times.
We will continue to monitor the situation to ensure a safe return to normalcy as soon as possible.
