Extreme H testing hydrogen power solution for live events

The partnership makes it possible to supply the entire ecosystem of the championship: from the pits to live broadcasting.

The Extreme H Championship has conducted the first test of a green hydrogen-based energy solution. The trial was carried out at the facilities of Siemens Energy in Newcastle, UK, and marked the start of a new era for sustainable motoring.

HPU2 technology: more power, less impact

The tested system, called HPU2, was developed by GeoPura in collaboration with Power Logistics. This new power generation unit delivers up to 500 kW of clean power, with a 24-hour continuous operating capacity.

Unlike its previous version(HPU1), the new model has a more compact, lightweight and modular construction. The design includes improved external batteries manufactured by Greener Power Solutions, which allow flexibility and scalability according to energy demand. In addition, the configuration can work autonomously or in hybrid mode, integrating other renewable sources such as solar panels.

The operation of the HPU2 system makes it a viable option for music festivals, remote broadcasting or construction projects. The only emission it produces is water, at a rate of 350 liters per hour at full load, a by-product that can be reused even in operational activities.

The HPU2 system is a hydrogen-based energy solution.

The green hydrogen used by HPU2 comes from ENOWA, Extreme H’s partner, and is produced exclusively from renewable energy. This partnership powers the entire ecosystem of an event: from the pits to the live broadcast.

Extreme H will be famous for its hydrogen fuel cell race cars, but they are only half the story, as we are also testing hydrogen technologies throughout the event site in an effort to become the first sport to run entirely on zero-emission hydrogen.

We are immensely proud to work alongside clean energy pioneers GeoPura and Power Logistics as we continue to expand our capabilities and demonstrate the potential of hydrogen.

Andy Welch, Extreme H’s Global Hydrogen Development Manager.

Extreme H’ s scope is established as a validation platform for sustainable energy solutions applicable beyond sport. With each race, they collect operational data that will help optimize future implementations in sectors looking to move away from polluting fuels.

We are incredibly proud of our evolving relationship with Extreme H, having been involved with Extreme E since the beginning.

We have come a long way from the initial design and implementation of a customized Energy Management Solution that incorporated an electrical package designed specifically for their energy needs, while meeting their sustainability goals.

Through effective data collection and analysis and the incorporation of new technologies such as solar energy and hydrogen, we have achieved consistent energy and carbon savings.

We look forward to participating in the next chapter.

Craig Hardeman, Innovation and Sustainability Development Manager, Power Logistics.
