NextEra Energy Resources has commissioned its first utility-scale solar plant in Louisiana: the Amite Solar Energy Center. Located in Tangipahoa Parish, this project has the capacity to generate up to 100 megawatts, enough to power thousands of local homes and businesses.
About Amite Solar Energy Center
This facility, which began commercial operations in March 2025, guarantees a reliable, fixed-price electricity supply for the next 25 years through an agreement with the DEMCO cooperative.
Thanks to this strategic collaboration, DEMCO members will enjoy affordable and stable energy, which represents a shared commitment to the well-being and development of the communities served. In addition, the construction of the solar center generated 200 temporary jobs in the region and stimulated the local economy through the purchase of goods and services from suppliers in the parish.
The economic impact extends over the long term, with an expected contribution of approximately $16 million in tax revenues for Tangipahoa Parish over the next 30 years. These funds will help strengthen essential public services such as education and road infrastructure, reflecting a comprehensive benefit to the community.
A subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources is responsible for building, owning and operating the Amite Solar Energy Center, ensuring operational excellence and sustained local economic development. This project represents an important step in NextEra’s expansion in Louisiana, consolidating its presence in the energy market with clean, reliable solutions that boost jobs and the regional economy.
With the broadest diversity in generation and energy infrastructure in the United States, NextEra Energy Resources continues to move toward a sustainable energy future by integrating solar power with other renewable sources and critical technologies to meet current and future demands.
