DHL y Boston Dynamics planean mejorar automatización para una mayor eficiencia en operaciones logísticas

German multinational DHL Group has strengthened its automation strategy after signing a new memorandum of understanding with Boston Dynamics, which provides for the integration of more than 1,000 Stretch robots in logistics centers globally.

DHL and Boston Dynamics: Automation for greater efficiency

The Stretch robot, designed by Boston Dynamics for autonomous case handling, has proven to be an effective solution for streamlining activities such as container unloading and, soon, order picking. Current units reach speeds of up to 700 boxes per hour, reducing repetitive physical strain and improving working conditions in extreme environments.

The massive deployment of these technologies is part of DHL Supply Chain‘s accelerated digitalization agenda, which seeks to integrate robotic solutions throughout its operations to achieve more agile, secure and scalable processes.

DHL adopts technology and offers its facilities as a testing ground to improve systems together with Boston Dynamics. This model allows for collaborative development to adapt robotics to real-life scenarios in modern logistics, increasing the value provided by each implementation.

Through our Accelerated Digitalization agenda, we are committed to maximizing the impact of robotics and automation across our operations and business units.

Today, DHL operates more than 7,500 robots and nearly 800,000 IoT sensors distributed across its global network. Ninety percent of its warehouses employ some form of automated technology. The integration of new Stretch units aligns with an investment of more than €1 billion in technology made over the past three years.

From case picking to order fulfillment, DHL seeks to apply automation solutions in a cross-divisional manner across its divisions. This approach increases productivity and sets standards for the entire logistics industry.

The understanding between DHL Group and Boston Dynamics is not limited to technology adoption. It also represents a strategic collaboration model where joint development, co-investment and sector adaptation are essential pillars. Both companies plan to continue exploring synergies and new use cases that leverage robotics as a driver of transformation within the global logistics sector.
