Structured innovation

The pace of nondestructive testing (NDT) innovations, most notably flexible digital radiography, is advancing according to the needs of the industries adopting them and the strategies of each organization to improve its imaging capabilities.

Sectors such as oil and gas nuclear power, construction, foundry, power generation, aerospace, NDT utilities, transportation, automotive, military and defense sectors make extensive use of a diverse range of imaging capabilities.

This wealth not only helps to ensure the quality and safety of the associated assets, but also provides essential information and knowledge to support critical decision-making processes at all levels of the ecosystem of stakeholders in these assets.

Technological advances in image sensors, IT/CT hardware and associated software create a synergistic positive effect on the other components of an organization’s imaging ecosystem.

A recent article published in ASNT’s Materials Evaluation magazine, written by Fernandez and Singh, offers interesting insights into how innovation can be nurtured and guided:

“Innovation in non-destructive evaluation (NDT) is an increasing contributor to ensuring the safety of high-value assets and operationally critical systems. It enables asset integrity for owner operators and improves their ability to adapt in a changing world. Through new and innovative ideas, better ways to inspect and new solutions to reduce costs, generate valuable data and improve long-term sustainability. However, innovation is not just about having a few bright ideas. It’s about creating value and helping organizations to continuously adapt and evolve.”
