Petrobras has confirmed a new discovery of oil with no impurities in the Santos Basin pre-salt layer, reaffirming its leadership in deepwater hydrocarbon exploration, reaffirming its leadership. The discovery was made in the 3-BRSA-1396D-SPS well, located 248 km off the coast of Santos (SP) and at a depth of almost 2,000 meters.
According to data provided by the Brazilian state-owned operator, the crude located in the area is of exceptional quality and free of impurities. This would be the second discovery confirmed in the same block in less than a year, which reinforces the viability of the area as a source of energy resources.
Strategic potential of the Aram block
The Aram block block was acquired in 2020 under the Production Sharing model managed by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) and PPSA. In it, Petrobras acts as operator with an 80% interest, in partnership with CNPC, which holds the remaining 20%.. The location in ultra-deep waters and the confirmed presence of high-purity hydrocarbons make it one of the most promising areas in the South Atlantic.
Drilling has been completed and, according to Petrobras, electrical profiles, gas traces and fluid sampling support the existence of hydrocarbons. Laboratory analyses are currently being carried out that will allow a more precise characterization of both the reservoirs and the fluid’s properties.
Exploration with a long-term vision
As part of the Discovery Appraisal Plan (PAD), Petrobras and its partners plan to drill two additional wells and conduct a formation test in the same area. This plan, which will be in effect until 2027, will allow for the collection of technical data that will define the region’s commercial potential.
