Ocean Power Technologies to supply WAM-V vehicles to international defense customer

The company has previously demonstrated the effectiveness of its systems in real-world scenarios in North America, Latin America and the Middle East.

Smart maritime technology specialist Ocean Power Technologies(OPT) has signed a contract with an international defense customer to deliver multiple WAM-V vehicles.

The operation, which will be executed under a COCO (contractor-owned, contractor-operated) model, contemplates the supply of unmanned vessels, integrated sensors and trained operators to manage them, with delivery scheduled for late spring 2025.

The award strengthens OPT’s presence as a provider of ocean surveillance ocean surveillance and maritime and maritime security technologies. Through the WAM-V platform, designed for autonomous patrolling and operational adaptability, it has established itself as a strategic resource for both surface and underwater operations.

Although financial terms and customer details were not disclosed due to the sensitivity of the agreement, this new order marks a continuation of OPT’s expansion in the defense sector.

Its PowerBuoy technology, which provides power and remote communications, along with WAM-V autonomous surface vehicles, are integrated as modular solutions for mine countermeasures and advanced reconnaissance.

We believe this agreement is further proof that our systems are an important part of building the future of ocean safety.

The use of highly adaptable and attractive unmanned surface vehicles, such as our WAM-V, is a cost-effective force multiplier for surface and seabed warfare efforts for the U.S. Government and other Allied Forces.

The dual use of our technologies allows us to provide systems to a wide range of customers.
