With more than 53 years of experience in the industry, Tank Builders Inc. maintains its legacy in storage tank construction. In an interview at the NISTM 2025 Conference, Kyle Kromer, vice president of the company, shared details about the company’s legacy, processes, safety philosophy and commitment to its customers.

Since joining the company in 1975, Kyle’s father instilled a culture of service that unknowingly laid the foundation for this business philosophy. “We build relationships, one tank at a time,” said Kromer, referring to the motto that guides the family operation.Kromer said, referencing the motto that guides the family operation he now leads with his siblings.
Tank Builders Inc. was founded more than five decades ago, and has established lasting bonds with its clients through its technical expertise and customized approach. However, regarding the construction process, Kromer explained that it starts with the installation of the first base ring and moves upwards to complete the structure with the roof and, if necessary, a floating roof.
For example, the duration of each project depends on the size of the tank. On average, a 100,000-barrel tank can take 16 to 18 weeks to complete, the vice president said.
On the other hand, the selection of materials is fundamental to ensure the durability of the tanks. Kromer highlighted the use of carbon steel, with specific variations according to geographical location: A36 steel for hot climates and A516 Grade 70 steel for colder areas, where temperatures demand higher resistance.
The most important thing is that our workers return home safe and sound every day.

Kromer said.
All Tank Builders’ welders are certified in different welding processes, guaranteeing quality and safety at every stage of construction. Although the company does not usually intervene in the selection of installation sites, because they are generally established by the clients themselves, its close approach and personalized service has ensured that clients remain loyal to the company.
