The Hornet solar plant generates 600 MW and generates more than $100 million in tax revenue for Swisher County.
Hornet Solar inicia operación en Texas

Vesper Energy has begun commercial operation of Hornet Solar , a 600 MWac photovoltaic megaproject that is already emerging as one of the largest single-phase solar installations in the United States. Located in Swisher County, Texas, the facility covers more than six square miles and integrates more than 1.36 million solar modules.

With a secured investment of $590 million and construction beginning in the fall of 2023, the project has reached each key milestone on an accelerated schedule: from the installation of the first module to completion in early 2025. Hornet Solar represents a technical, economic, and social breakthrough, generating more than 300 jobs during its construction and projecting tax revenues exceeding $100 million for the region.

Tax and community benefits of Hornet Solar

The direct economic impact is reflected in the allocation of funds: $61 million for the Tulia Independent School District, $25 million for Swisher County , and another $12 million for the Swisher Memorial Hospital District. These figures solidify Hornet Solar as a key source of funding for local infrastructure.

We’re providing local, reliable, and affordable energy so communities can grow with stability.

Boosting Texas’ Energy Leadership

Hornet Solar strengthens Texas’ role as a national solar powerhouse. With its installed capacity, the plant can power tens of thousands of homes and businesses , aligning with the state’s energy independence and sustainability goals. It also fosters long-lasting relationships with landowners and energy offtakers, integrating public and private interests.

The project has been endorsed by key county figures, including Michael Clawson, Elsa Carrasco, and Mike Sims, who highlighted the plant’s transformative role in the economy and social services. Representatives from the Texas Solar and Storage Association also participated, confirming the facility’s regional significance.

Hornet Solar is, in essence, a strategic piece within the American energy mosaic. Not only because of its scale, but also because of its ability to generate lasting value locally and nationally.
