T1 Energy invests in Texas with its new 5 GW solar cell plant

It will be one of the largest solar cell manufacturing facilities in the United States.

T1 Energy, formerly known as Freyr Battery, announced the selection of Milam County, Texas, for the construction of its new 5 GW solar cell manufacturing facility , G2 Austin.

This ambitious project, with an investment of up to $850 million , is part of T1 Energy’s expansion strategy to consolidate its position as a leader in solar technology production in the U.S.

G2 Austin: The new solar cell plant

The aforementioned plant will be one of the largest solar cell manufacturing facilities in the country, representing a significant advance in T1 Energy’s efforts to strengthen domestic renewable energy manufacturing. With this investment, the company plans to generate up to 1,800 direct jobs , contributing to the creation of a more robust industrial ecosystem in the region.

Meanwhile, its solar module plant, G1 Dallas, continues to exceed expectations. In the first two months of 2025, the plant already produced more than 220 MW, 48% more than expected. T1 expects G1 Dallas to achieve a production of 3.4 GW by the end of 2025.

The state of Texas continues to establish itself as a leader in solar manufacturing in the U.S., attracting significant investments from companies such as Canadian Solar, SEG Solar, and Toyo. This favorable climate for renewable energy is crucial to the growth of T1 Energy, which, under its new identity and corporate headquarters in Austin, seeks to capitalize on opportunities in the solar and energy storage sectors.
