Dong Fang Offshore (DFO) has confirmed the award of a contract to Norwegian company VARD for the design and construction of an offshore subsea construction vessel , based on the VARD 3 39 design. This will be the third vessel delivered by VARD to DFO, strengthening a strategic partnership aimed at sustained growth for both companies in the Asian market.

Characteristics of the submarine construction vessel

The new vessel has been designed for complex offshore operations, such as offshore wind farm maintenance and submarine cable installation in the energy and telecommunications sectors. Its structure incorporates a 250-ton, wave-compensated crane and a 1,200-square-meter working deck, expanding its capabilities for large-scale missions.

In terms of engineering, the vessel stands out for its hybrid battery propulsion system, which improves both operational performance and energy efficiency. The DP2 dynamic positioning system ensures stability even in adverse conditions, key for precision underwater tasks. It will also feature Vard Electro’s SeaQ Green Pilot solution, which enables remote monitoring via the cloud.

With capacity for 130 people, the interior was designed by Vard Interiors with a focus on comfort and functionality. The ship will feature cabins, offices, meeting rooms, and relaxation areas that meet the most demanding international standards.

Delivery and manufacturing with European seal

The hull will be built at Vard’s shipyard in Romania, while final assembly and delivery are scheduled for 2027 in Norway. With this transaction, DFO seeks to consolidate its regional leadership by expanding its fleet with units capable of operating autonomously, precisely, and efficiently.

Since its founding in 2019, DFO has rapidly evolved within the Asia-Pacific offshore services segment. This new order consolidates the trust placed in VARD as a technology partner and shipbuilder. The choice of Europe for the vessel’s development reflects DFO’s commitment to quality, safety, and operational reliability.
