AKROCEAN has completed the first floating LiDAR survey and assessment of offshore wind energy in New Zealand, in collaboration with Taranaki Offshore Partnership ( TOP ). This initiative records the development of sustainable energy in the country, providing essential data for the assessment of wind and ocean resources in the area.
Energy assessment with the floating LiDAR system
For 12 months, AKROCEAN deployed its floating LiDAR system , designed to accurately measure wind speed and direction in offshore areas. This type of technology improves the planning and feasibility of offshore wind projects by allowing reliable data to be collected without the need for fixed structures on the seabed.
The project was carried out with the support of New Zealand Offshore Services Limited , which facilitated local operation and logistics at sea. Thanks to this collaboration, the campaign was carried out efficiently, ensuring the continuous collection of information under optimal conditions.
The Taranaki Offshore Partnership will benefit from the data to assess the viability of future offshore wind farms in the region. With the transition to clean energy sources a strategic goal, such studies are essential to New Zealand’s sustainable development and energy independence.
AKROCEAN has consolidated its position as a leader in the offshore sector, expanding its global presence with cutting-edge technology in wind resource analysis . With this pioneering campaign in New Zealand, the company demonstrates its ability to offer reliable solutions to large-scale projects in the field of renewable energy.
