Vikram Solar, a renowned manufacturer of photovoltaic solar modules , has announced its foray into solid-state battery manufacturing with an integrated 1 GWh plant , expandable to 5 GWh. This initiative reinforces its commitment to the energy transition and the efficient storage of clean energy.
Innovation and technology in batteries
Vikram Solar’s new plant will incorporate proprietary battery management system (BMS) technology to improve cell performance and safety. According to the company, these batteries will offer increased storage capacity , thermal stability and a lifespan of up to 10,000 cycles, positioning them as a reliable and sustainable alternative in the global market.
With most of its components manufactured in India, this move is in line with the country’s “Atmanirbharta” strategy, which seeks independence in renewable energy . The growth of battery energy storage systems (BESS) is key to achieving the goal of covering 50% of energy demand with renewable sources by 2030.
Benefits of solid state batteries
- Higher energy density : Efficient use of electroactive materials.
- Improved safety : Reduced risk of fire and stability in various temperatures.
- Sustainability : Recyclable design and manufacturing with non-toxic materials.
- Supply chain resilience : Using domestic raw materials to reduce external dependence.
Vikram Solar’s expansion into the global market
The addition of batteries to its portfolio strengthens Vikram Solar’s position as a one-stop energy solutions provider. Its partner network and R&D capabilities enable innovations in battery chemistry, which could significantly impact the energy storage industry globally.
With this initiative, Vikram Solar strengthens its leadership in renewable energy and energy storage, contributing to sustainable electrification and the development of advanced technologies for future energy management.
