The Gode Wind 3 offshore wind farm begins generating renewable energy on a large scale. This marks the start of commercial operations for the project, which is located in the German North Sea and is jointly owned by Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure.

With an installed capacity of 253 MW, Gode Wind 3 can supply 250,000 households in Germany with clean energy .

Gode Wind 3 offshore wind farm operations

On 28 February, after successfully completing final tests, Gode Wind 3 became fully operational. This offshore wind farm becomes Ørsted’s fifth wind farm in Germany, a country that is rapidly moving towards a renewable energy future. Ørsted is recognised as a market leader in Germany, where it currently supplies offshore wind energy to more than 1.6 million households.

Offshore wind is a key technology in Germany’s transition to green energy.

said Patrick Harnett, Chief Operating Officer at Ørsted.

Gode Wind 3 is a prime example of technological innovation and international cooperation. The wind farm features 23 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines, each with an output of 11 MW, making them the largest wind turbines in operation in German waters . This new generation of wind turbines offers up to 40% higher annual energy yield compared to previous models.

The installation and operation of the turbines were carried out in collaboration with contractors from several European countries, including manufacturing and logistics centres in Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and France.

Impact on the German renewable energy market

With the commissioning of this project, Ørsted is strengthening its leadership in the German offshore wind energy market. This wind farm is just one part of the expansion of clean energy generation capacity in the country, which will be complemented by the upcoming Borkum Riffgrund 3 project, with a capacity of 913 MW , which is expected to come online in 2026.

In addition to Ørsted, Nuveen Infrastructure, one of the world’s largest infrastructure investment managers, also plays a leading role in this project. Nuveen manages more than 7.6 GW of wind capacity and is committed to generating renewable energy for millions of households around the world.

In addition to its contribution to the energy transition, Gode Wind 3 implemented innovative installation techniques that significantly reduce underwater noise during construction . This technological improvement minimizes environmental impact and paves the way for future, more sustainable solutions in the development of offshore projects.
