Fluidstack, the cloud AI platform renowned for its innovation, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the French government to develop the world’s largest decarbonised AI supercomputer . The announcement was made during the AI Action Summit in Paris, attended by President Emmanuel Macron.
A strategic agreement for France’s digital sovereignty
The agreement was signed by French Minister for the Economy, Finance, Industrial and Digital Sovereignty Eric Lombard, Minister for Industry and Energy Marc Feracci, and Fluidstack co-founder and chairman César Maklary. The new facility will leverage France’s low-carbon nuclear power , providing up to 1 gigawatt (GW) of processing power dedicated to AI.
Designed to expand beyond 1 GW by 2028, the supercomputer will house nearly 500,000 cutting-edge AI chips. In addition to its power, it will stand out for its commitment to sustainability, by using decarbonized energy and recovering waste heat for reuse.
Push for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)
The supercomputer will be specially designed to train advanced AI models, consolidating France as a world leader in technological infrastructure. This project is part of a broader strategy to position the country alongside the United States and China as one of the three global centers of artificial intelligence .
Phase 1 of the project will have an initial investment of 10 billion euros, and is scheduled to go into operation in 2026. This initiative is expected to generate thousands of highly qualified jobs in the AI research and infrastructure sectors.
Key Statements
France is the European country that is leading in artificial intelligence. Since 2017, we have trained our talents, developed our research and strengthened our key players in the fields of health, space, defence and large language models. We have a role to play because our nuclear energy is controllable, safe, stable and decarbonised, ideal for expanding our AI computing capabilities. This €10 billion agreement with Fluidstack embodies my ambition. We must not slow down because the world is accelerating and the battle for innovation is happening now.
Emmanuel Macron said.
For his part, César Maklary stressed that France’s commitment to digital and energy sovereignty makes it the ideal location for such an ambitious project.
Fluidsta ck and the French government share a common vision for the future of AI, based on the combination of clean energy , computing power and the development of advanced models. With this initiative, France is strengthening its leadership in technological innovation and sustainability.
